A sometimes useful trick.

By Reg Whelan

Save money as well.

Lately I have found that some of the subjects I have been interested in have been rather heavy reading. I have had to devote intense concentration in understanding what is written.
A major part of the effort is because of eye strain.

I have taken to having the information read to me.

This has enabled me to more clearly understand the subject I'm trying to research.

How do I have the subject read to me?

Some years ago as a cost cutting measure I discovered Sun's Open Office. I installed open office on my computer and I am happy with the application. This is an open source Office Suite. This means that the people who write the application are supported by many others who are able to edit the program code and offer improvements and fixes for any problems.

Open Office is able to open any file created by Microsoft's Office suites. If necessary it is also able to create files that can be read in Microsoft's Office Suite.

Now this is an advantage that Microsoft's Office doesn't provide. Sun's Open Office is able to export a writer file to a pdf format.

No where was I? Oh Yes. having information read to me.

I select the text that I'm trying to read. I scroll to the end if the text and click and hold the right mouse button then drag it to the beginning of the text to select it. I right click on the selection and click on the copy option in the popup menu.

I then open a new Open Office Writer page and right click inside the page and select paste from the popup menu. I then select file and export as a PDF.

Ok that was easy enough.

Now I open the PDF file I created and in the view menu I activate read option and then select read whole of document.

Hey presto. My computer reads the information to me.

So the result is a slow and deliberate reading with hyphens and other characters on the page being read. I can follow the text along the with the reading.

This is an advantage because as an internet marketer I sometimes need to create reports and eBooks. I don't need another application to be able to do this.

Open Office saves me a lot of money.

You can have your intel read back to you. I hope I can avoid errors and omissions in my intel by doing this as well.

I hope some of you find this information useful.

Certainly useful. Some of the text to speech software is definitely pricey!

Too true.
Thanks.

The speech/reader is in adobe's pdf format. Don't forget to export to PDF format to have material read. There other ways to create a PDF file.

I cannot add comment. It says no HTML allowed.

Where is the HTML now?

Hi Gabriele,
Just type in english. that is allowed. lol

Hi Reg,
now, it worked.

Can't you click view and then zoom and larger for better reading?
Is that only possible with Windows?

Hi again,
You sure can. lol. But no amount of zoom helps when I get tired or just start loosing concentration when reading heavy material. My brain decides it wants to be somewhere else and it just leaves me behind. I have sometimes found that I have thought out a sentence and when reading back I discover that I have typed a couple of words and then started a word and finished that word with half the last word and the bit in between is missing.

My last Intel is still not published.

Have a look at some nice photos if you wish at
